Katana 30.5
Shinshinto Yamato katana
This is a very graceful long mumei katana of the Yamato school that measures 30.5 inches (cutting edge)
and has the appearance of the finest Koto tachi done by the Yamato school.
The blade shape is shinogi-zukuri where the shinogi very high and the cross section is a diamond shape.
The hada is either a running itame or masame and the hamon is a ko-midare based on suguha.
The blade has many old fingerprints and many scratches. The nakago is ubu with one hole.
The blade has Kesho yasuri, file marks. This style or pattern of file marks appear only
on Shinto or later blades. The habaki is a gold wash.
Normally a gold wash habaki would suggest a koto blade but the file marks suggest a
Shinto or Shin-shinto blade. The saya is an old tachi mount and the blade comes with
a iron tsuba and iron fuchi/kashira.
